SALT RIVER WILD HORSE PHOTOGRAPHY PRINT GALLERY

A collection of fine art photograph of the amazing Salt River Wild Horses.

The Salt River Wild Horses are a population of wild horses that roam freely along the Salt River in central Arizona, United States. They are a cherished and iconic symbol of the state's natural heritage.

The history of the Salt River Wild Horses can be traced back to Spanish explorers who brought horses to the region in the 16th century. Over time, these horses escaped or were released, forming feral populations that adapted to the rugged desert environment.

The Salt River Wild Horses are known for their beauty and resilience. They have adapted to survive in the desert landscape, finding food and water sources in the area. Their physical characteristics often include sturdy builds, strong legs, and a variety of coat colors and patterns.

These horses have become a popular attraction for locals and visitors alike. Many people enjoy observing and photographing them in their natural habitat along the Salt River and the surrounding Tonto National Forest. The horses have also garnered significant public support and advocacy for their preservation and protection.

In 2015, concerns arose about the potential removal and relocation of the Salt River Wild Horses due to conflicts with land management and development plans. This led to a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including advocacy groups, government agencies, and the public, to find a solution that would protect the horses. In 2016, the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group, a nonprofit organization, worked with the State of Arizona to establish the Salt River Horse Territory, ensuring the long-term preservation and management of the wild horse population.

Today, the Salt River Wild Horses are recognized as a treasured and protected population. They are managed through a cooperative management agreement that emphasizes their humane treatment, preservation of genetic diversity, and protection of their natural habitat. The horses continue to roam freely along the Salt River, captivating the hearts of those who appreciate their presence and the unique beauty they bring to the Arizona landscape.
