When you hear the word geology, I am sure many of you are transported back to high school and the infamous "Rocks for Jock" class. However, visiting the Grand Canyon gives you a new perspective on the word. Here the geology of the region is laid out for all to see. If you take the 9.7 mile Bright Angel Trail from the south rim to the river, you will descend 4,860 feet, and go back almost 2 Million years of the earth's history.
This panoramic photograph highlights all of the canyon layers laid out before you, providing this dramatic landscape.
