When we visit the Grand Canyon and walk along the trails visiting the many outlooks, I hear a familiar comment, "Where is the river"? This is a valid question, as the river is not visible at most overlooks, and the major tour companies limit their stops to overlooks closer to the hotel and the points west along Hermit Road. However, if you take the time and drive 20 miles east from the Grand Canyon Village, you will arrive at Lipan Point. From Lipan Point, you get this great view of an S curve in the Colorado River as it enters the Canyon.
I took this photograph on a frigid December morning, and it had snowed the night before, so the air was cold and clear. The dark blue of the river is a stark contrast to the colors of the surrounding canyon walls.
