"Purple Clematis" or "Clematis viticella." Clematis viticella is a climbing vine that is native to Southern Europe and Western Asia, but has been widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in gardens throughout the world.
As its name suggests, Purple Clematis produces showy, purple-colored flowers that bloom from mid-summer through early fall. The flowers are typically about 2-3 inches in diameter and have six petals that are arranged in a star shape. The vine itself can grow up to 20 feet long and typically requires support such as a trellis, fence, or wall to climb.
Purple Clematis prefers a sunny location with well-draining soil.
